Neo-Dramatic Make-up Tutorial – Dark Eyes & Dark Lips

Every once in a while, mood strikes and I opt for a seriously dramatic make-up look. Before wearing it out for a masquerade ball or a regular dinner (why not?), I tried it out for you, guys, so here it is! Hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed creating it! :)

This is a step-by-step on how I achieved the eye-makeup:

Step 1: I prepped my eyelids with a creamy eyeshadow so everything else I add later on stays in place. Then, I sketched my crease with a black kohl pencil to give it depth and drama.

Step 2: using a flat, synthetic brush, i smudged the black pencil going upwards:

Step 3: I placed the matte, brown eyeshadow in my Sleek Ultra Mattes Darks Palette on top of the blended out eye pencil, focusing on the inner corner.

Step 4: Mixing Thunder (slate grey) and Pillow Talk from my Sleek Darks Palette, I emphasized the upper lid, right up into the crease.

Step 5: I deepened the crease using Noir from the same palette and a more pointy brush – M.A.C. 226. Then, I blended in a touch of purple – Highness – on the brow bone. On my lower eyelid, I mixed Paper Bag and Highness and blended the two shades together.

Step 6: I added false lashes on the upper lash line and a nude coloured kohl pencil on the lower inner rim.Then, I finished everything off with a touch of black mascara.

TIP: Using really full lashes and too many coats of mascara will draw attention away from everything we just did on the eyelids, so keep it simple!

As this wasn’t enough, I also went for a dramatic lip, combining a dark brown lip pencil and a brown-black lipstick. In order to make it more glamourous, I added a touch of gold pigment on my Cupid’s bow.

TIP: As both eyes and lips are key to this make-up, keep it very subtle for the rest of the face. It helps if you apply a light-coloured foundation (or do what I did – I used my normal foundation and a powder two shades lighter than my skin tone) and keep everything matte. The blush should be very subtle and away from the center of the face.

AnnaLynne McCord Beverly Hills 90210 Inspired Make-Up

The other day, I came across this picture of AnnaLynne McCord’s make-up focusing on nude lips and a soft smokey eye that really made me want to try it out. I particularly liked the reddish-brown matte eyeshadow she has on the eyelids as well as the face contouring, very subtle yet very elegant.

I started with the contour : I highlighted the cheekbones, under-eye area, eyebrow area and around the mouth. Using a darker shade, I sculpted the nose, cheeks, forehead and jawline in order to achieve a similar look to my reference picture. I listed all the products I used down below.

The eye make-up is pretty simple, just followed my natural eye shape and pulled the eyeshadow out a bit on the corners, trying to keep a straight line but very well blended. TIP: The M.A.C. 217 brush is perfect for this!

Party Make-Up For All Hollow Magazine Launch

A couple of days ago, something wonderful happened: a new project has come to life, a breath of fresh air for many people in the creative industries. It bears the name All Hollow and it is a quarterly magazine (meaning it comes out every 3 months). First, it was a blog, a very popular blog. Now, it has found its way on newsstands, among fashion magazines but not quite there because it’s so much more. One could call it a hybrid, a meeting place for photographers, writers, models, actors, musicians, fashion stylists, make-up artists, hair stylists and illustrators. Do check it out on Facebook, follow the blog as it is still being updated religiously but DEFINITELY buy the magazine – it will open your mind ;)

The launch party was a series of concerts (I especially loved Aylin Cadar&the gang, although Toulouse Lautrec wasn’t so bad either)/get together/meeting place/great place to hang out as literally everybody was there. Having collaborated with the team on 2 photoshoots for the 1st issue, I couldn’t have missed the event. Therefore, I’m showing you the make-up I wore on the occasion hoping it will help inspire you for any private or formal function you may attend.

Fall 2012 Make-up Trends: Jewel-Toned Smokey Eyes Reinterpreted

Am vazut directiile in care se indreapta machiajul toamna aceasta si, cum era de asteptat, nu toate machiajele sunt prea purtabile. Fiind realizate pentru catwalk, aspectul final este mai dramatic si foarte artistic. Dar cum facem daca ne place ceva si vrem sa-l incorporam in viata de zi cu zi? Ei bine, asta am incercat sa fac zilele astea, sa vin cu abordari “purtabile” ale acestor trenduri. Tot ce am facut a fost sa pastrez elementele cheie ale acestor trend-uri si sa le aplic in alta maniera. Sper sa va placa si sa va indemne sa le incercati :)

Primul trend, care a fost si cel mai cerut in articolul despre trend-uri, este noul smokey eyes in care folosim culori si texturi ce amintesc de bijuterii.

We’ve already viewed the main make-up trends for this upcoming fall season and, as expected, it’s not too wearable.As these make-up looks are created for the runway, the final effect is dramatic and very artistic. But how about if we really one of these and we’d like to add it to our normal, day to day make-up? This is what I’ve been trying to do these past few days, show you “wearable” versions of these trends. I hope you like it and feel inspired to try them on :)

The first trend I’ve approached, which has been the most requested by the readers in the trends’ article, is the new smokey eyes where we use colours and textures that remind us of jewels.

Machiajul ochilor, pas cu pas/ Step by step eye make-up:

1. se aplica un fard maro mat in pliu pentru a trasa o linia de demarcatie ce ne indica pana unde putem merge cu culorile ce vor urma / apply a matte brown eyeshadow in the crease to create a borderline which will indicate as high as we can take the colours to come - M.A.C. Embark.

2. cu un creion kohl negru cat mai moale, se accentueaza linia genelor / using a black kohl pencil, the softest one you have, focus on the lashline – Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Pencil – Zero.

3. se realizeaza baza machiajului cu un fard cremos negru ce va intensifica toate culorile ce vor fi aplicate ulterior / your eyeshadow base will be a creamy black eyeshadow that will make the colors pop – M.A.C. Metal-X Cream Shadow – Gold Carbon.

4. se aplica un eyeshadow albastru marin usor sidefat / apply a cobalt blue eyeshadow – Urban Decay The Black Palette – Sabbath.

5. in centrul pleoapei superioare, se aplica un pigment mov sau verde, cum preferati / use a purple or green loose pigment in the middle of your eyelids – M.A.C. Pigment – Grape.

Machiajul ochilor este finalizat cu mascara neagra, creion kohl negru aplicat pe waterline si putin iluminator sub sprancene. Recomandat ar fi sa folositi acelasi fard maro si sub genele inferioare pentru a contura ochii. Eu am aplicat si putin pigment mov sub ochi.

Finish off your eye make-up with black mascara, black kohl liner on the waterline and a touch of highlight underneath your arches. I would recommend you use the same matte brown eyeshadow on the lower eyelid as well. I also applied a touch of purple pigment.

Summer Holiday Make-up: Smokey Eyes

Oficial, am intrat in vacanta pentru doua saptamani. In urmatoarele 2 saptamani voi profita ca nu se mai organizeaza nunti si voi incerca sa-mi iau o mica vacanta. As vrea sa-mi fac timp sa mai scriu si pe blog pentru ca simt ca l-am abandonat in ultima vreme.

Asa ca, dupa ce am lenevit in pat 2 ore, am zis ca ar fi frumos sa sarbatoresc momentul printr-un tutorial pentru voi, dupa ce am machiat atatea persoane in ultimele zile :)

Asa ca acesta ar fi un smokey eyes putin mai de vara, ceva care sa mearga cu un bronz usor si care sa nu incarce excesiv fata. Pentru ca am lucrat atat de mult in ultimele saptamani, nu am mai avut timp sa stau la soare asa ca bronzul s-a mai dus putin dar incerc sa-l resuscitez :)

Ca baza, am folosit No7 Protect&Perfect Serum Intense, apoi fondul de ten NARS Sheer Glow-Barcelona impreuna cu anti-cearcanul MAC Studio Finish Concealer -NW30 si pudra minerala MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural – Medium Dark. Am conturat sprancenele, pe care nu le-am mai pensat si le-am lasat sa se ingroase putin, cu Make Up For Ever Waterproof Eyebrow Corrector in nuanta 03 Brunette

Am inceput cu obrajii de data asta, am folosit M.A.C. Powder Blush – Fleur Power si iluminatorul Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick – Bronze.

La ochi, am folosit M.A.C. Paint Pot Indianwood ca baza, peste care am aplicat fardul Style Predator de la M.A.C. pe care il puteti vedea si aici, impreuna cu quad-ul din care face parte. De altfel, toate nuantele folosite sunt din acesta, asa ca va recomand sa dati click pe link pentru a vedea culorile. Poate fi usor inlocuita cu Urban Decay Naked Palette, stiu ca multe dintre voi o aveti deja pe aceasta.

Pasul 2 a fost sa aplic nuanta cea mai inchisa in coltul exterior si sa blenduiesc spre mijlocul pleoapei. Am folosit pensula M.A.C. 217:

Apoi, am luat nuanta cea mai deschisa din set, Wild by Nature, si am blenduit pliul cu ea.

Am revenit la nuanta cea mai inchisa si am aplicat-o si pe pleoapele inferioare cu o pensula-creion, usor combinata cu prima culoare folosita, Style Predator:

In coltul interior, am folosit M.A.C. Naked Lunch, un roz pal sidefat. Apoi am folosit un creion kohl negru pe waterline si am rimelat genele cu mascara neagra M.A.C. ZoomLash.

Pe buze, am aplicat un ruj roz pal, mat cu putin gloss – MAC Lipstick Please Me si Money Honey Dazzleglass.

Initial, prinsesem parul intr-o coada lejera pe ceafa, dar apoi m-am razgandit si mi-am facut un coc dezordonat in crestet. Cum vi se pare mai ok? Eu prefer cocul pentru ca nu suport sa las parul liber pe caldura asta.

Cred ca stiti deja cat de mult imi place un smokey eye intens, in nuante mate, combinat cu pometi foarte bine definiti si buze ceva mai nude. Cam astea sunt si caracteristicile de baza ale unui machiaj a la Kim Kardashian, iar acum veti vedea cum puteti realiza un machiaj de genul acesta, pas cu pas.

De obicei, incep cu machiajul tenului, imi place sa lucrez pe o panza perfect uniformizata, asa ca am folosit fondul de ten M.A.C. Face and Body in nuanta C3 si, inainte sa aplic pudra, am luminat zona de sub ochi. Make-up artistul lui K.K. aplica intotdeauna anti-cearcanul in forma triunghiulara, coborand mult sub ochi, dupa care pudreaza toata fata extrem de bine. Anti-cearcanul arata cam asa:

Machiajul ochilor step-by-step:

- baza pentru ochi ar trebui sa fie un creion foarte moale sau un fard cremos maro pentru a intensifica si mai tare culorile ce urmeaza – M.A.C. Paint Pot nuanta Groundwork

- in pliu, un fard maro deschis, mat pe cat posibil – Urban Decay Naked Palette nuanta Buck

- pe pleoapa mobila, un fard maro ciocolatiu intens, si acesta mat – Make Up For Ever Matte Eyeshadow nuanta 17 Espresso

- eyeliner negru la baza genelor superioare si pe waterline – M.A.C. Fluidline Blacktrack

Un alt element important al machiajului este contouring-ul, aici gasiti tutorial step-by-step cum sa obtineti rezultatul perfect.

Am creat umbrele de sub pometi cu Benefit Hoola, blush-ul folosit este M.A.C. Powder Blush Sunbaque iar iluminatorul este Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick – Beige.

Pentru buze, este important sa folositi un creion bej-nude cum este Bourjois Levres Contour – 10 Espiegle si sa aplicati un gloss cat mai natural, bej-nude sau piersica extrem de deschisa. Eu am ales a doua varianta, pentru a da putina culoare – M.A.C. Kissable Lipcolour – So Vain.

Spring Smokey Make-Up

Am avut o perioada mai agitata si am lipsit de pe blog, dar asta nu inseamna ca nu m-am mai machiat :) In ultima vreme, am fost destul de consecventa in ceea ce priveste machiajul de zi – smokey eyes in nuante calde de maro, bej-camel, sofran si alte culori asemanatoare. Cred ca asta este felul meu de a chema mai repede vremea calda si pielea bronzata :)

In ultimele saptamani, am folosit Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector in nuanta Light (urmeaza review-ul imediat) pentru a avea tenul cat mai fresh si deloc incarcat. Am revenit la M.A.C. Studio Finish Concealer pentru a camufla cearcanele, momentan folosesc nuanta NW15 care e destul de deschisa. Am fixat machiajul tenului cu M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinish Natural – un alt produs preferat pentru ten – in nuanta Medium Plus. Apoi, am definit sprancenele cu Mak Up For Ever Waterproof Brow Corrector – 03.

Spring Smokey Eyes step-by-step:

- ca baza pentru ochi, am folosit un Paint Pot de la M.A.C. , nuanta Groundwork – un maro mat:

- pe pleoapa mobila si sub genele inferioare, am aplicat un fard maro ciocolatiu usor satinat – M.A.C. Carbonized:

- in pliu si sub ochi, am folosit o nuanta mata de bej-camel pentru a face trecerea dintre culori sa fie cat mai lina – M.A.C. Outre:

- am mai folosit sub ochi putin fard mat de culoarea sofranului, adica un maro-roscat – M.A.C. Saffron iar in pliu un strop de roz pentru a da putina culoare fara sa fie vizibil acest lucru – M.A.C. Free To Be.

Mascara este Maybelline One by One – Glam Black.

Blush-ul folosit este Sleek – Coral iar pe buze un balsam cu aloe vera, fara culoare.

In mare, asa m-am machiat aproape zilnic, iar in unele zile am adaugat si un eyeliner negru – M.A.C. Fluidline in nuanta Blacktrack. Astazi, de exemplu, am folosit eyeliner-ul doar pe waterline, la final, insa in alte zile am facut un cat-eye. Va arat si varianta aceea in curand ;)

Halloween Make-Up: Flapper Girl

Daca nu vreti sa va camuflati sprancenele, sa va accentuati cearcanele, sa va pictati obrajii cu gri ca sa pareti moarte si asa mai departe, iata o varianta mai frumoasa de machiaj pentru Halloween.
Puteti incerca un costum de epoca, o rochie cu franjuri in genul anilor ’20, unul-doua siraguri foarte lungi de perle, niste bucle lipite de frunte si bine cerate si machiajul de mai jos.

Asa arata machiajul pentru cine va priveste din fata – nimic exagerat, nu-i asa? :)

Un machiaj smokey eyes negru cu putin maro este tot ce va trebuie pentru ca vedeta machiajului este zona sprancenelor!

Exagerati linia sprancenelor in coltul exterior al ochiului pentru un plus de dramatism! ;)

Mare atentie la conturul buzelor, acesta trebuie sa fie perfect curat!

EXTRA TIP: Daca aveti alunita pe fata, accentuati cu un creion negru. Daca nu aveti, desenati-va una putin mai jos de ochi, spre coltul exterior! ;)

Zilele acestea spargem norma machiajelor de Halloween care inunda internetul pentru ca am acceptat provocarea lansata de Nuntasic.ro si L’Oreal Paris de a realiza un machiaj bridal.

Probabil stiti deja ca sunt adepta machiajului smokey eyes asa ca am incorporat acest trend si in machiajul de mireasa. Mai multe detalii in curand, cand va voi dezvalui si produsul meu preferat L’Oreal Paris! ;)
